Minh Pham Sensei

Minh Pham Sensei

Pham sensei began training in martial arts as a teenager in Vietnam. He discovered aikido as an adult, and, in 1991, he began training under the direction of George Simcox sensei at the Virginia Ki Society. He has traveled to Japan for intensive training retreats at the headquarters dojo and attends national and regional workshops to continue his training.

Matt Doetsch-Kidder Sensei

Matt Doetsch-Kidder Sensei

Doetsch-Kidder Sensei began training aikido in 1999 at the Virginia Ki Society under George Simcox Sensei. He has traveled to Japan several times for intensive training retreats at the headquarters dojo. He has also accompanied Shaner Sensei to Russia as his attendant and assistant. In the 2004 International Taigi Competion, he and Taigi partner Jon Poppele Sensei were awarded two gold medals and one bronze medal.

Doetsch-Kidder Sensei began teaching adult and children's classes in 2004. He has also led outreach programs to local high schools and the Juvenile Detention Centers.

David Shaner Sensei

David Shaner Sensei

Shaner Sensei is Chief Instructor of the Eastern Ki Federation in the United States and also servers as Japan Headquarter's Advisor to the Eastern Europe/Russia Ki-Aikido Federation. He was uchi-deshi (live-in student) under Soshu Tohei Sensei. He served for many years as a professor of philosophy and asian studies at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina before retiring in 2012.

Terry Pierce Sensei

Terry Pierce Sensei

Pierce Sensei began training in 1960 after completing service in the US Army. He later co-founded the New Jersey Aikikai in Merchantville, NJ and in 1968 became the Chief Instructor of South Jersey Aikikai. Pierce Sensei founded the New Jersey Ki Society in Riverton, NJ in 1974 and still serves as its Chief Instructr. He is the most senior member of the Eastern Ki Federation.

Soshu Koichi Tohei Sensei

Soshu Koichi Tohei Sensei

Koichi Tohei sensei was awarded the highest rank (10th degree blackbelt) by Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei) in 1969. After O-Sensei's death, Tohei Sensei continued as Chief Instructor of the Aikikai.

Through understanding the principles of mind and body unification, Tohei sensei had very clear ideas about the best way of teaching Aikido. These ideas were largely influenced by Nakamura Tempu Sensei and Tetsuju Ogura Sensei, two formaive teachers of our Founder (Soshu) Tohei Sensei.

Tohei Sensei intoduced a system of teaching Ki. In 1971, Tohei Sensei founded the Ki no Kenkyukai. Its purpose is to teach the principles of Ki and realization of mind a body oneness.

Born in 1920, Tohei Sensei continued to teach Ki principles and develop the Ki Society until his passing in mid 2011.

Kaichou Shinichi Tohei Sensei

Kaichou Shinichi Tohei Sensei

Shinichi Tohei Sensei is the son of Founder Koichi Tohei Sensei. He was born on August 18, 1973 in Tokyo. He later graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology with a degree in Bioscience.

Shinichi Tohei Sensei is President (Kaichou) of Ki Society International and the Principal of the Tohei Gakuen Ki-Aikido school at the headquarters in Japan.

Kaichou Sensei oversees all Ki and Aikido training throughout Japan and overseas. He also personally teaches at the Ki-Aikido club at Keio University and is a P.E. lecturer at the University.
